The cover letter are not much different than the resume. But yes it is more concise. A cover letter must always accompany a resume. Many of the points in the resume are again covered in the cover letter. Here are some tips to be kept in mind while writing a cover letter. You can get more information on www.letter-samples.com

It should not be an exact copy of your resume. The highlights of the resume should be collected and presented beautifully in the cover letter.
Make sure that your resume and cover letter portrays the same information. Use the same quality of paper for your resume and the cover letter. Also remember the font and style of the writing should be the same.
Be concise. Be sure that you use different cover letters for different employers.
At the end of the letter you should always request an interview.
Make it clear in the cover letter that you understand what the company is about. It will interest the employer more.
Be sure to check your cover letter and resume before you submit it any where. It will be good if someone else has a look at it, so that mistakes which you overlook can be rectified by someone else.

Yes, really nice tips for cover letter and also helpful for the beginners.

Cover letters means to introduce yourself.

Introduce (write) in the way for the specified position it should be in the interest of the job and employer should attracted by the first line (introduction).

Include your experience and skills to understand more about you by the interviewer.
Explain why you are interested in the job and how much you are valuable for the desired position.

I also agree with the Admin 4th point always in the end of the letter ask for interview.
