Questions to Avoid and Circumvent

Bullet

Question for Professions

There are certain questions that can be evaded if the interviewer attempts at getting personal in an interview. You can avoid at least ten such questions or be straight-faced so as not to give any reaction to them. Employees need to be hired on the basis of their skills. Therefore some questions become irrelevant and can be avoided without any antagonism. These are:
  • What’s your race?
  • What is your nationality or national origin?
  • What is your maiden name?
  • How old are you?
  • Do you have any disabilities?
  • What is your religion?
  • Have you ever been arrested?
  • What type of military discharge did you receive?
  • Have you ever filed for bankruptcy?
  • Do you belong to any organizations?
Prospective employers can refrain from asking such questions that have no relevance to the job at hand. Or the same questions can be worded differently so that they do not sound prejudiced but are rather trying to ascertain facts. For instance instead of asking what’s your nationality it would be more appropriate to ask – Are you eligible to work for the job applied for and so on.
