Question for Professions

There are a few things one needs to consider whether appearing for a live interview or phone interview. Remember that it might be your first & last chance to make an impression on the interviewer.

Here are some Do’s and Don’ts, that can help you secure a good job offer:
  • Do be sure that you know exactly where you are having the interview and approximately how long it takes to get there.
  • Do get a good night’s sleep the day before your scheduled interview and look for means to relax yourself. You may carry some pocket snack and a mouth freshener along. It is even advisable to splash some water on your face in case of a day-long interview.
  • In case you are offered a job on the spot, you don’t need to say yes or no immediately. In fact it is advisable not to say yes unless you are absolutely sure that you want the job.
  • Don’t neglect to talk to other people besides those you are interviewing with, like the receptionist and prospective co-workers.
  • Do prepare for as many kinds of questions as possible. If possible, go in for mock interviews with some friend or family member.
  • Don’t be caught off guard if questioned about expected salary and benefits. Be prepared to negotiate.
Unlike live interviews, phone interviews are more difficult to handle & require greater preparation since you need to make an impression on the interviewer with just your voice & confidence. Here are some take care’s before, during & after an interview:

Take Care’s Before an Interview:
  • Turn call-waiting off so that your call isn’t interrupted
  • If the time isn’t convenient, ask if you could talk at some other time and suggest alternatives
  • Clear the room of any kids or pets and turn off the stereo and the TV
Take Care’s During an Interview:
  • Don’t smoke, chew gum, eat or drink.
  • Keep a glass of water handy, in case you need to wet your mouth.
  • Speak slowly and enunciate clearly and give short answers.
  • Smile as it will project a positive image to the listener.
  • Use the person’s title (Mr. or Ms. and their last name). Use first name only if asked to do so.
Take Care’s After the Interview:
  • Make notes regarding what you were asked and how you answered
  • Don’t forget to say thank you once you finish with the interview. Also try and send a thank you note which reiterates your interest in the job.
