There are quite a few things that ought to be clearly avoided when you finally get invited for an interview.
- Avoid arriving either too early or late. Be there just right on time.
- Do not put off the interviewer by making him aware that he has kept you waiting.
- Also since interviews are scheduled for several candidates, often companies do not like candidates meeting each other in the waiting area.
- Do not show impatience or discomfiture. Avoid listless handshakes and any other nervous movements.
- Do not display affectations or oddities.
- Avoid wearing large pieces of jewelry, perfume or heavy makeup to an interview. These could distract the interviewer and detract from your presentation.
- Never ever start railing about your former employer. Instead turn situations around to show yourself in an advantageous situation.
- Remember the first impression is always important.
- Refrain from cribbing and sounding like a complainer.
- Do not try to be funny by making comical remarks. Getting a job is serious business.
- Do not chew gum.
- Finally avoid asking salary details, benefits or perks.
